About Dysport®

Dysport® is an injectable treatment designed to help patients diminish the appearance of frown lines and forehead wrinkles. This treatment is a neuromodulator, composed of the botulinum toxin type A. When injected, the formula blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, a hormone responsible for muscle contraction. (2) This treatment is beneficial when used to address lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the eyebrows (glabellar or “11” lines). Preparation

We will provide preparation instructions during your consultation. Preparation for Dysport® is quite simple; patients will be asked to temporarily cease the use of medications or supplements that thin the blood. Patients should avoid harsher skincare products such as exfoliants, chemical peels, as well as any products containing retinol before their treatment. If applicable, patients should avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours.

On the day of their procedure, patients should avoid the use of skincare or makeup, ensuring they arrive at their appointment with a clean face. If you experience any skin damage before your appointment, we may need to reschedule your appointment.

Treatment Process

At the beginning of the treatment, our team will cleanse the skin before administering the injections. Your injector will administer the formula directly to various points of the face, focusing on muscles that cause frown lines or wrinkles to form. The formula of Dysport® will help relax the targeted muscles, reducing the amount of movement and activity while also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the treatment area. This treatment is quick, often being performed in 10-20 minutes, making this a perfect procedure for even the busiest of patients.

Recovery and Results

Following a Dysport® treatment, patients will be able to return to their normal activities but should refrain from excessive sun exposure. Patients should also refrain from touching, massaging, lying down, or putting any pressure on the treatment area during the first 24 hours after treatment. Patients may experience redness, swelling, and minor tenderness around the treatment site, but these effects typically subside on their own.

It may take 2-3 days for the results of Dysport® to become more visible. Patients will be able to notice a revitalized, more youthful appearance as creases and lines are minimized and relaxed.

FAQ

Are Botox and Dysport the same thing?

No, Botox and Dysport are not the same. While Dysport and Botox are both neuromodulators formulated from botulinum toxin type A, they are separate treatments that both have different formulas and onset times. Dysport causes faster-acting results, while Botox results take more time to develop. However, Dysport results do not typically last as long as Botox results. The most effective option for each patient can be determined during a personal consultation.

Will I need multiple Dysport treatments?

You will most likely be able to see substantial results from Dysport after just one appointment. However, patients can benefit from multiple treatments over time, as the results of Dysport are temporary. Your injector will discuss your personal treatment plan at your personal consultation after examining your facial skin.

Can my Dysport treatment be combined with another treatment?

Dysport can be combined with other treatments for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. While Dysport improves the appearance of the skin by reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, the formula does not add any additional volume to the skin. For this reason, patients may choose to add a dermal filler option to their Dysport appointment. For example, Restylane, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, can add volume to the face to promote a more youthful appearance.

Is Dysport permanent?

No. The Dysport formula will eventually be metabolized by your body over time. Patients often see their results last anywhere from 3-4 months, with some patients seeing results that last longer. Many patients will choose to receive touch-up injections to maintain their results. Recurring injections can help patients prevent new wrinkles from forming while continuing to reduce the appearance of existing signs of aging.

What age should I consider getting Dysport injections?
