While it may be tempting to limit your research to your local area, the right cosmetic surgeon is not always in your neighborhood. This makes traveling out-of-town for plastic surgery an absolute necessity.
There is much to consider during this time, and a little planning can help you take care of every detail to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.
Scheduling Your Consultation
As you can imagine, a talented, reputable plastic surgeon will likely have a very busy schedule, especially for surgeons specializing in plastic surgery procedures like facelift surgery, breast augmentation, tummy tuck surgery, or liposuction.
It’s important to have this in mind as you begin the process so as to not get discouraged if a consultation appointment is scheduled for a date that seems too far.

Making Travel Plans
When making your travel plans, arrange to arrive a few days prior to your procedure so that you can fit in an in-person appointment with your surgeon for a final assessment of your surgery and treatment plan.
Also, make sure to include your support crew in your timing and travel plan. You will need extra help in the initial days of recovery, so it is important to check in with the people you have in mind and ensure they will be available when you need them.
Planning to Stay
After your surgery, make sure you have adequate time for the initial recovery and follow-up. Your recovery timeframe will depend on the extent and type of surgery done as well as your individual healing rate.
Long travel early after surgery can be uncomfortable and pose serious health risks, especially if you plan to undergo a more involved procedure (or a combination of plastic surgery procedures). To minimize these risks, you should consider staying for a week or longer in the locale where you have surgery. This gives you time for your swelling to go down and your body to start healing.
If you do not have a friend or relative to stay with in the area, you can arrange for accommodation in a comfortable hotel close to the surgical center or hospital that allows you to recover smoothly until you are cleared to return home.
