The breast implant manufacturers claim their implants have a 1% failure rate per year. For some patients that means they may last for a life time. Others may not be as fortunate. There are ways that some implants may last longer. In General, saline implants, if overfilled slightly above their recommended volume last longer than those filled at or below the recommended volume. I usually tell patients that the only reason one would need to exchange implants is if they want a size change or they are having an implant related problem or obvious implant failure.
