When it comes to surgically removing unwanted fat you really only have one option and that option is Liposuction. However, there are two different types of liposuction one can have and determining which type is best for you is up to the recommendation of a board certified plastic surgeon and your knowledge of the procedure. The two liposuction options are Smart lipo, commonly known as laser liposuction, and traditional liposuction.
Each procedure has its pros and cons and to start laser liposuction does not tear on injure the surrounding tissue in the layers of skin and fat which results in less bleeding, bruising, and pain. This type of lipo also results in a small scar and can be done under a local anesthetic.
However laser lipo is best suited for small “problem areas” such as under the chin, love handles, etc. You will also have more discomfort during the procedure if done under a local anesthetic. Also, the high power treatment of the laser may leave legions and burns.
Traditional liposuction on the other hand gives you immediate results in hard to reach areas that you would not have otherwise lost with diet and exercise and allows you to remove fat from larger areas such as the abdomen, back, thighs, arms etc. the only draw backs to traditional liposuction, as with any other type of surgery, is injury to surrounding tissue and nerves resulting in bleeding, bruising and pain; you will also feel some discomfort post surgery.
In the end your safety and results depend on the skill and knowledge of your plastic surgeon, not which machine he uses.
